BLISS STATE. BRAIN SCANS OF DEEP PRAYER – PART III

The third leg of our “Brain Scans of Deep Prayer” series looks further into the Johns Hopkin study of people who claimed to speak to God. During deep prayer and meditation, scientists discovered a natural biochemical “bliss state” without any other enhancements (such as drugs). During these deep prayer experiences, researchers found that a person’s brain released endorphins and dopamine in a balanced way. It’s almost like God’s delight is transferred to the person deeply communing with Him. The great thing with the bliss state created through a person’s intimate spiritual relationship with God is that there is no crash associated with external stimulants. Better still, it creates a state of calm pleasure and emotional stability. Some studies link regular meditative and prayer-like states with improved stress resilience and lower risk of cognitive decline. Just think about that! Let us tap into the Biblical promise: “You will keep him in perfect peace, Whose mind is stayed on You, Because he trusts in You” (Isaiah 26:3 NKJV). Romans 8:6 also reveals “to be spiritually minded is life and peace.”
There are so many fantastic benefits when we slow down and take the time for deep prayer and meditation – bliss, calm pleasure, emotional stability, antidote for cognitive decline, improved stress resilience, etc.!
“You will show me the path of life; In Your presence is fullness of joy; At Your right hand are pleasures forevermore” (Psalms 16:11 NKJV).
