Our final conclusions from the “Brain Scans of Deep Prayer” studies at Johns Hopkin, of people who claim to speak to God, reveals that the ability to connect to God through deep prayer and meditation is a universal ability for mankind. Researchers were surprised when they saw the still, quiet voice (sometimes called the “inner voice” of God) affecting the language areas of the human brain. What amazed the scientists most was that the language processing regions behaved as if a person was receiving input rather than generating it. Practitioners of deep relational prayer and profound meditation will confirm this reality. Scientifically, it is confirmed that their brains stimulated dialogue so vividly that the inner voice can felt external rather than self-produced, because it is.
The capacity of deep prayer and meditation is endless, because God is eternal. This universal ability for deep prayer and meditation connections with God is not rare or mystical. It is a feature that the Lord built into every human brain. Most people just don’t know how to access it intentionally. One of the best places to start is called “Practicing His Presence” where a person intentionally connects to the Heavenly Father, Messiah Yeshua, and the Holy Spirit; and then, stay in that mode as you keep yourself quiet, so you can quiet down to listen to Almighty God. At first, you may only be able to stay quiet for a minute or two; however, if you persist in this practice of being in His Presence, you will grow and know His still, small voice better and better and better. I remember having to fight my brain from wandering, like mentally creating my To-Do List. As I pulled my thoughts back into trying to stay connected to Him, I discovered a great eternal reward – a deeper relationship My Beloved. Now it not a question of hearing Him, it’s a question of: Is this the perfect will of the Father?
You see, you choosing to cultivate deep prayer and/or deep meditation is a choice. It’s a choice where you want to spend your time and what you want to nurture through determined focus. All of us can stay in constant mental noise, stimulation, and stress, or we can learn to enter deeper states of focus and clarity. Practicing deeper prayer in His Presence will not only change how you perceive decisions, emotions, and life itself; but it will transform your relationship with God, progressively growing your own personal intimacy with Him.
“Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth! The Lord of hosts is with us; The God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah” (Psalms 46:10-11 NKJV).
“See, I have set before you today life and good, death and evil, in that I command you today to love the Lord your God, to walk in His ways, and to keep His commandments, His statutes, and His judgments, that you may live and multiply; and the Lord your God will bless you in the land which you go to possess” (Deuteronomy 30:15-16 NKJV).
