SHAMASH – THE SERVANT FLAME

There are nine branches to a Hanukkah Menorah – Hanukkiah – while the Temple Menorah has seven branches. What’s the difference when it comes to the Shamash candle – the Servant flame?

A Hanukkiah has a separate Servant Flame that is usually higher and/or set apart from the other eight lights.

The difference for the Temple Menorah is that there is not just one flaming Shamash. All seven flames represent God’s Servant the Branch – Messiah Yeshua – and those completely one with Him. This is the One who has seven eyes, which are the Seven Spirits of God burning before the throne: “Seven lamps of fire were burning before the throne, which are the seven Spirits of God” (Revelation 4:5).

Zechariah 4:10 speak of the LORD’s seven eyes, which are the Seven Spirits of God. It says they are a plumb line that scans to and fro throughout the earth. While Revelation 5:6 tells us these same Seven Spirits of God are sent out into all the earth – yours and mine: “And I looked, and behold, in the midst of the throne and of the four living creatures, and in the midst of the elders, stood a Lamb as though it had been slain, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God sent out into all the earth.”

“The Branch” is a Messianic title that connects “seven eyes” to The Servant: “Thus says the Lord of hosts: ‘If you will walk in My ways, And if you will keep My command, Then you shall also judge My house, And likewise have charge of My courts; I will give you places to walk among these who stand here. Hear, O Joshua, the high priest, You and your companions who sit before you, For they are a wondrous sign; For behold, I am bringing forth My Servant the BRANCH. For behold, the stone that I have laid before Joshua: Upon the stone are seven eyes.’” (Zechariah 3:7-9a).

Notice that the first qualifier in Zechariah 3:7 is “If you will WALK in My ways” and then the LORD of Hosts adds “I will give you places to WALK among those who stand here”. It is not a coincidence the LORD of Hosts uses the term “walk” twice. The only passage in Scripture that clearly demonstrates how Yeshua walked in the winter is John 10:22-23: “Now it was the Feast of Dedication [Hanukkah] in Jerusalem, and it was winter. And Jesus WALKED in the temple, in Solomon’s porch.” In fact, this is the clearest Biblical reference throughout all of Scripture to Yeshua walking anywhere, yet most of God’s people are still missing what Yeshua demonstrated as His worship reality. This year the Heavenly Father, Messiah Yeshua, and the Holy Spirit took my hands and walked with me during Hanukkah. It’s a simple walk. It’s a pure walk, and oh so gloriously divine! It’s a different and deeper winter one-dear-land walk than ever before and has to do with Zechariah 3:7’s “keep My command,” “judge My House,” and “charge of My courts,” which lies between the two bookends of “If you will WALK in My ways” and “I will give you places to WALK among those who stand here.”

“The Branch” is linked to a descendant of Jesse. Jesse was King David’s earthly father, and we are told that a Branch shall grow out of his Davidic Dynasty roots. This One is a Rod from the stem of Jesse and a Branch that grows from Jesse’s roots who is full of the Seven Spirits of God. This was spiritually and physically fulfilled by Yeshua: “There shall come forth a Rod from the stem of Jesse, And a Branch shall grow out of his roots. The Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon Him, The Spirit of wisdom and understanding, The Spirit of counsel and might, The Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord” (Isaiah 11:1-2). The fullness of the Spirit of the Lord, wisdom, understanding, counsel, might, knowledge, and the fear of the Lord is also fulfilled spiritually and physically by those fully made in God’s own image through reaching the goal of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus – becoming just like Messiah Yeshua. Or, in other words, a Servant who becomes one with The Branch that has the fullness of Messiah Yeshua within them in the form of the Seven Spirits of God. This is the 100-percent fullness of the Holy Spirit that these devout branches matured into from their 10-percent initial deposit (Eph. 1:13-14).

Let us all walk just like Messiah Yeshua!
