ECHAD ONENESS

Echad is a Hebrew word for “one.” More precisely, echad means a single entity that is made up of more than one part, as in the Trinity of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
The most important verse that Jewish people memorize is Deuteronomy 6:4: “Hear, O Israel, Yahwah is our God, Yahweh is one [echad].” The Word could have used a different Hebrew word “yachid,” which carries the meaning of a numeric and solitary oneness. Instead, Moses was divinely inspired to use the Hebrew word “echad,” which is a unified oneness or a unified one. Take for example, “the two shall become one [echad - אֶחָד] flesh” (Genesis 2:24). Please note that yachid – the main Hebrew word for a solitary one – is never used in reference to God.
This brings us to my main point. As I was studying John 19, the Trinity’s eternal echad oneness came into play in an unusual way. When I read verse 18 in the Amplified Bible, I was caught on the words “one on either side” regarding Yeshua being crucified on the cross: “There they crucified Him, and with Him two others – one on either side and Jesus between them.” The plain sense interpretation of this verse is the two robbers that were crucified on either side of Messiah Yeshua. But the Lord was directing me to consider another dimension.
What if, the eternal reality of Yeshua being in echad oneness never ceased while Messiah Yeshua hung on the cross? What if the Heavenly Father and the Holy Spirit were on either side of Yeshua as He hung on His cross, bearing the sins of the world? Note: I am not equating the two robbers to the Heavenly Father and Holy Spirit. I am saying, I believe that Father God and the Holy Spirit were supporting Yeshua during His most extreme circumstances endured on the cross. Or in other words, they were “one on either side” of Yeshua when He was crucified, just like Aaron and Hur held up Moses’ arms to assist him for the victory over Amalek.
In fact, when I asked for confirmation that the Heavenly Father and the Holy Spirit were on either side of Yeshua on the cross, assisting the Messiah, as He bore the sins of the world, I was given Aaron and Hur supporting Moses: “Now Amalek came and fought with Israel in Rephidim. And Moses said to Joshua, ‘Choose us some men and go out, fight with Amalek. Tomorrow I will stand on the top of the hill with the rod of God in my hand.’ So Joshua did as Moses said to him, and fought with Amalek. And Moses, Aaron, and Hur went up to the top of the hill. And so it was, when Moses held up his hand, that Israel prevailed; and when he let down his hand, Amalek prevailed. But Moses’ hands became heavy; so they took a stone and put it under him, and he sat on it. And Aaron and Hur supported his hands, one on one side, and the other on the other side; and his hands were steady until the going down of the sun” (Exodus 17:8-12 NKJV).
This doesn’t negate every truth in Scripture about Yeshua dying on the cross for the redemption of mankind and all of creation:
“And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross” (Philippians 2:8).
“For it pleased the Father that in Him all the fullness should dwell, and by Him to reconcile all things to Himself, by Him, whether things on earth or things in heaven, having made peace through the blood of His cross” (Colossians 1:19-20).
“But God forbid that I should boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world” (Galatians 6:14).
Let us all contemplate the cross and the echad goodness of God.
