The most prominent things that I have been meditating upon this Hanukkah Season (2023 December 7-15, 2023) is how the Feast of Dedication portrays the rededication of our hearts and bodies to the One True Holy God (https://sapphirethroneministries.wordpress.com/2023/12/12/be-the-menorah/) as well as the wars that the Maccabees fought.
As even the most causal observer knows, we are in a season of war. Israel fighting Hamas and Ukraine engaging Russia are vivid illustrations. The Lord is speaking through His prophets like Nate Johnston (https://www.nateandchristy.co/): “We need war-time prophets, you know who you are. You don’t sound like the rest. You just can’t talk sunshine and lollipops. You have a furnace in your belly and a sword in your mouth. You don’t want stages and green rooms. You were born for the frontlines. For the grit, mess, and mud of epochs of crisis. You ruffle feathers of comfortable Christianity and get called a heretic by those burying their heads in the sand. You just can’t play the game because you were born for the time of war. The clashing of kingdoms is your instrument. The take down of giants your dessert. You laugh in the face of fear mongering propaganda because you were born with victory in your DNA. Ground breaker. Territory taker. You are a different breed and in this next chapter you will be needed. Rise up prophets of war!”
The Lord is also speaking through His apostles like Natasha Grbich (https://arielgate.com/): “… and this eternity is transitioning through a war. It’s not transitioning through a “la la la… I’m the Bride of Christ and I will swoop in and sit down, it’s war. This war is prophesying to us. It’s saying something to us. 2024, we’re going to war through the door. Anybody that is not as a Christian warring, you are captive. We are in war for the souls of the nations.” (13 December 2023 at Christian Center, Shreveport, LA).
The original story of Hanukkah is based on real life events. It’s about a small ragtag devout group – called the Maccabees – who defy the world-dominating power of their time. They were the first to fight using guerrilla warfare techniques against a foe much bigger and stronger than themselves. While still using sneak-and-attack methods, they also engaged in five massive battles, which should have wiped them off the face of the earth. But God… The Maccabees knew that their strength, protection, and victory was in, through, and to God. They desperately sought and depended on the Lord.

As I studied the story of the first Hanukkah, one thing that struck me was had not this small and zealous ragtag group overcome their world dominating power, we probably would not have Judaism; and thus, Christianity, today. The Seleucid’s (Syrian-Greeks) goal was to either wipe out the people of the Book (Bible) or completely assimilate them to the point that they totally lost their identity as Jews. Everyone was supposed to conform and become hedonistic Greeks.
Doesn’t this sound familiar? Can you hear the war trumpets blowing? Are you ready to be a David versus Goliath? Are you ready to be part of the Maccabees fighting for their faith and their people?
It’s time for war. The Bible says God’s overcomers win and the Messiah comes to reign. I personally believe that Messiah Yeshua is coming in and through His people first before the second coming of Christ, and none of us really know what that looks like. Keep your eyes on the Author and Finisher of our faith – Messiah Yeshua (Jesus Christ) – and our incredibly kind, loving, and powerful Heavenly Father. Then, obey the dictates of His heart. Your survival in these coming war torn days will depend upon it.
Hear the Maccabee call: “Whoever is for the Lord follow Me!”
