Hebrew is a pictorial language where each letter is actually a picture, which fundamentally represents it. Each Hebrew letter also has at least one number associated with it. For those who would like to put God in a box, please note that God speaks through everything, including pictures, numbers, and patterns.
In 2015, I coined a term for the twenty-two Hebrew letters – “Hebrew Living Letters” ™ – because each Hebrew letter is a living being inherent in Messiah Yeshua (Jesus Christ). Just as the Seven Spirits of God are to the Holy Spirit, so are the Hebrew Living Letters to the Word of God: “Now I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse. And He who sat on him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He judges and makes war. His eyes were like a flame of fire, and on His head were many crowns. He had a name written that no one knew except Himself. He was clothed with a robe dipped in blood, and His name is called THE WORD OF GOD” (Revelation 19:11-13 NKJV).
I am re-releasing posts from 2015 about the twenty-two Hebrew Living Letters™ (HLL) with the original artwork created during the Hebrew Living Letters™ Classes with some modifications, so be on the lookout for twenty-two posts total... one for each letter.
Always remember that the Word of God is made up of letters – Hebrew Living Letters™. The individual spiritual forces contained within His Hebrew Living Letters™ are inherent in Messiah Yeshua. They were birthed from His essential, intrinsic essence, which was originally included wholly in the Word. Let us begin our journey with the picture of the ox.
ALEF (ALEPH) is the first letter of the Hebrew Alphabet. It has a numerical value of both 1 and 1000. Its pictograph is an ox or bull, which symbolizes strength, leader, or father. ALEF is a silent letter that points to the mysteries of the oneness of God and the secrets of the Father.
The letter ALEF (א) can be broken down into three living letters: two YUDs and a VAV. Notice how the upper YUD and lower YUD are separated by the VAV. If we add up the three living letters contained within the ALEF pictograph (YUD+VAV+YUD), it equals 26. It is no coincidence that the Sacred Name YHVH also adds up to 26. We see this displayed in the famous verse where God reveals Himself to Moses in Exodus 3:14-15 – “I AM THAT I AM” (אֶהְיֶה אֲשֶׁר אֶהְיֶה ehyeh asher ehyah). According to John Hannah in The Bible Knowledge Commentary, “ehyeh is probably a wordplay on Yahweh,” God’s covenant name also known as the Tetragrammaton, YHVH.
Even though Scripture begins with the letter BET and the word bereshit (in the beginning), the Ten Commandments begins with the letter ALEF. “I am God your God who has taken you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage” (Exodus 20:2). The divine revelation to God’s people on Mount Sinai began with God initiating contact by coming down on the third day after the people had consecrated themselves. In turn, Moses approached the cloud and ascended into a higher reality.
There is a profound secret in the union of the higher reality (upper YUD) with a lower reality (lower YUD) by means of a connecting VAV. One of the Father’s secret agent men was/is His only begotten Son. Know that the letter VAV is a picture of a nail. One of the mysteries of the sign that hung above Yeshua’s head during His crucifixion is revealed when one looks at the first letter of each word on the sign – “Salvation comes by the nailed hand of God.” The Cross of Christ – the Lamb slain before the foundation of the world – is the connecting point of the higher and lower realms. It is a place where the Father’s and the Son’s love is one where there is joy forevermore. Yeshua Ha Mashiach, as the God-Man being both the Son of God and the Son of Man, is the one that connects the upper realm of heaven and the lower realm of earth: “Who, being in the form of God… took upon Himself the form of a servant… as a man” (Philippians 1:6-11). We as His Body are made like unto Him. We are called to be gates of heaven… bringers of heaven to earth, as kings and priests of the Order of Melchizedek.
Not only does ALEF speak of the union of higher and lower reality in Christ, it also depicts that the Lord our God is one (echad). First, since ALEF (א) is numerically one, it can stand for the One True God and His glory. Additionally, when we look at the word “ALEF” (אֶלֶף) itself, we see that it is made up of three living letters – ALEF (1), LAMED (30) and PEY (80). Add these three up to get the total numerical value for אֶלֶף is 111. Thus, the Hebrew Living Letters™ for the word ALEF symbolizes the unity of the One True God at all levels. 1 x 1 x 1 = 1 perfectly depicts the concept of echad (plurality in oneness) of the Godhead of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
