IMPROVES CLARITY & EMOTIONAL REGULATION. BRAIN SCANS OF DEEP PRAYER – PART II.

Part II of the “Brain Scans of Deep Prayer” series looks further into the Johns Hopkin study of people who claimed to speak to God. Their research confirms what those who practice deep prayer already know. Clarity and emotional regulation are its result. The brain scans of the devout people in deep prayer show an activation of normally “quiet” brain networks. Researchers observed increased activity in the regions of the brain associated with deep empathy, attention, and cognitive control during such states. Often this is described as a “flow-like” or deeply focused mental mode. Instead of wasting energy on fear, anxiety, or any internal noise, the brain shifts into a stable, low-noise state that improves clarity and emotional regulation.

“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things. The things which you learned and received and heard and saw in me, these do, and the God of peace will be with you” (Philippians 4:6-9 _NKJV).

“And do not seek what you should eat or what you should drink, nor have an anxious mind. For all these things the nations of the world seek after, and your Father knows that you need these things. But seek the kingdom of God, and all these things shall be added to you. Do not fear, little flock, for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom” (Luke 12:29-32 _NKJV).
