“Ponder how valuable your soul must be for Satan to tirelessly pursue it, and the King to lay down His own life for it.” I don’t know who penned this true-filled statement, but it’s a doozer.
The Biblical month of introspection – Elul – is the best time for pondering and repenting, which begins today. When we contemplate the cosmic battle over our soul(s), we get a glimpse of how truly valuable every single person is who has been made in God’s own image.
The Hebrews believe that every single soul is a world. When you destroy a person’s life, you destroy a world. The opposite is also true. When you redeem your own “little” world, you bring redemption to a world and the world. One of the biggest lies of the enemy of your soul is that you don’t matter… who you are and what you do doesn’t matter. Nothing could be further from the truth.
Ponder what a priceless gift the King of kings and the Lord of lords gave for your soul on the Cross. The value that He laid down His life every single soul and for the world is almost incomprehensible because to appreciate its immensity we have to have His immeasurable perspective. One thing I do know is that He loves you and me. The Lord God rejoices when we overcome the things that so easily entangle us.
Therefore, let us meditate upon the colossal value of the Cross, which paid the incalculable price for your soul and mine.
“For you have been called for this purpose, because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example, so that you would follow in His steps, He who committed no sin, nor was any deceit found in His mouth; and while being abusively insulted, He did not insult in return; while suffering, He did not threaten, but kept entrusting Himself to Him who judges righteously; and He Himself brought our sins in His body up on the cross, so that we might die to sin and live for righteousness; by His wounds you were healed. For you were continually straying like sheep, but now you have returned to the Shepherd and Guardian of your souls” (1 Peter 2:21-25 NASB).
