The “bright morning star” is a star that outshines all the others. Before a dawning of a new day, before the rising of the sun, the morning star rises to herald the coming of the new day. We are in the prophetic hour of the bright morning star rising.
Just like a lion refers both to Yeshua and Satan, so does the “morning star.” In Revelation 5:5, Yeshua (Jesus) is referred to as the Lion of the Tribe of Judah. In 1 Peter 5:8, we see Satan compared to a roaring lion seeking someone(s) whom he may devour. Yeshua and Satan may have certain characteristics like lions; however, they are like lions in extremely different ways.
The “morning star” is mentioned in Isaiah 14:12 – “How you have fallen from heaven, O morning star, son of the dawn! You have been cast down to the earth, you who once laid low the nations!” The KJV and NKJV translations of the Bible translate “morning star” as “Lucifer, son of the morning.” It is clear from the rest of the passage that Isaiah is referring to Satan’s fall from heaven: “And He [Jesus} said to them, “I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven” (Luke 10:18 NKJV). So, in the case of Isaiah 14, “morning star” refers to Lucifer before He fell from glory (was thrown down).
In Scripture, angels are referred to as stars: “The mystery of THE SEVEN STARS ARE THE ANGELS of the seven churches, and the seven lampstands which you saw are the seven churches (Revelation 1:20 NKJV).
Significantly, Messiah Yeshua (Jesus Christ) unmistakably identifies Himself as the Bright Morning Star: “I, Jesus, have sent My angel to testify to you these things in the churches. I am the Root and the Offspring of David, THE BRIGHT AND MORNING STAR” (Revelation 22:16 NKJV). Yeshua is the self-existent Light of the World. As the Creator, He is much brighter and greater than His creation. This is the second to the last “I am” statement that Messiah Yeshua makes in Scripture. The last “I am” statement Yeshua makes is “Yes, I am coming quickly” (Revelation 22:20).
The promise to overcomers in Revelation 2:28 “And I will give him the morning star” refers foremost to being given access to “the bright and morning star” aspect of Yeshua, which is the sure and confident anchor of hope in the Messiah during the dawning of the new day (Heb. 6:19). Our anchor of hope does not disappoint because of the love of God shed abroad in our hearts (Rom. 5:5). We need to take heed to humble ourselves and position ourselves to be teachable so that the Morning Star of the Messiah rises within us.
“And I will give him the morning star” also refers to the overcoming kings and priests made after the Order of Melchizedek becoming His covering cherubim for the Ark of His Presence.
