TARRY WITH ME (PASSOVER TO PENTECOST)

The voyage from Passover to Pentecost is a spiritual growth journey from freedom from slavery to getting equipped with the Word and the Spirit, so God’s people can be married to the Almighty as His Bride.

After the first evening of Passover that remembers the Exodus from Egypt stands a little-known appointment for God’s people on the Biblical Calendar. Starting the second night of Passover, there is additionally a first fruits festival known as the “The Counting of the Omer,” or simply “The Omer,” which initiates a 49-day tarrying period that culminates on the 50th day of Pentecost (Shavuot in Hebrew).

The Omer is more than simply a tallying of days. It’s a time to focus on growing out of the mentality of a slave to this world into being perfectly free and “perfect in one” with our Beloved Lord and Savior Messiah Yeshua (John 17:23). It’s a time to tarry in God’s presence and wait for the power from on high: “Behold, I send the Promise of My Father [the Holy Spirit] upon you; but TARRY in the city of Jerusalem until you are endued with power from on high” (Luke 24:49).

The Apostle Paul used the concept of “tarry” to point to his celebration of The Counting of the Omer: “But I will tarry in Ephesus until Pentecost” (1 Corinthians 16:8). The Omer offers an annual opportunity to work out our salvation with fear and trembling, so we can have a higher revelation and relationship with God (Phil. 2:12).

When the Hebrews count The Omer, each evening from the second night of Passover through the evening of Shavuot, the counter recites a blessing: “Blessed are You, LORD Our God, King of the Universe, Who has sanctified us with His commandments and commanded us to count the Omer.” Then, the counter proclaims: “Today is X days of the Omer.” Each night’s count is followed by reciting Psalm 67 and a few short petitions for spiritual cleansing, renewal, and restoration. Note that the Hebrew version of Psalms 67 contains exactly 49 words, which corresponds to the 49-days of the Omer.

Psalms 67 includes the themes of the harvest as well as God’s salvation (i.e., Yeshua) being made known over all the earth. The Counting of the Omer guides us on a spiritual journey of preparation, self-introspection, and maturing of our character traits. It prepares us to be His Bride. It prepares us to become just like our Beloved.

We are now in a time when the souls of Christ’s Righteous Bride are sorrowful due to their own weight of the flesh (carnality), their families’ fleshly weight, and humanity’s fleshly weight. “Then saith He unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful, even unto death: TARRY ye here, and watch with me” (Matthew 26:38 KJV). The Lord’s goal is for your and my fleshly nature (sin nature) to completely die. The lusts of our flesh must die so we can be members of His flesh (Eph. 2:1-3)! “For we are members of His body, of His flesh and of His bones. ‘For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.’ This is a great mystery, but I speak concerning Christ and the church” (Ephesians 5:30-31).

The works of our flesh must flatline for a person to be totally co-crucified in Christ, because Messiah Yeshua wants His spiritually pure and spotless Bride (Gal. 2:20; Gal. 5:19-21). “And those who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires” (Galatians 5:24).

Be encouraged and believe to the full salvation of your soul: “For yet a little while, and He that shall come will come, and will not TARRY. Now the just shall live by faith: but if any man draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him. But we are not of them who draw back unto perdition; but of them that believe to the saving of the soul” (Hebrews 10:37-39 KJV).
