Have you ever thought about the greatest love of all?
Messiah Yeshua (Christ Jesus) tells us in John 15:13 – “Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends.” Think about that for a moment. The greatest love of all is for a person to lay down their own life willingly for their friends, by sacrificing their time, energy, and possibly even life itself.
What comes to mind first and foremost is Yeshua willingly choosing to lay down His life for the whole wide world – you and I: “I am the good shepherd; and I know My sheep, and am known by My own. As the Father knows Me, even so I know the Father; and I lay down My life for the sheep. And other sheep I have which are not of this fold; them also I must bring, and they will hear My voice; and there will be one flock and one shepherd. Therefore My Father loves Me, because I lay down My life that I may take it again. No one takes it from Me, but I lay it down of Myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This command I have received from My Father” (John 10:14-18 NKJV).
The greatest love of laying down one’s life for his friend also fits with a series of three in Scripture, which applies to all kings and priests made after the Order of Melchizedek: ‘’And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death” (Revelation 12:11 NKJV). We are in the culminating season “when salvation, and strength, and the Kingdom of our God, and the power of Christ have come” (Revelation 12:10). Or in other words, the greatest manifestation of God’s Kingdom is here at the same time that the Antichrist’s kingdom is arising: “for the accuser of our brethren, who accused them before our God day and night, has been cast down … Woe to the inhabitants of the earth and the sea! For the devil has come down to you, having great wrath, because he knows that he has a short time” (Revelation 12:10,12). But never fear one flock, our Great Shepherd has shown us the way to overcome. ‘’ And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death” (Revelation 12:11 NKJV). First, we apply the Blood of the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world to every situation (John 1:29). Then, we actualize the frequency of the Word of God in our own lives, which becomes the word of our testimony. Then, finally, we completely die to our own selves and our own ways, even to the point of giving up our own life for another.
Both of my parents exhibited the greatest love of all… laying down their lives for a friend. I have been marveling at this powerful gift and legacy. The passage surrounding John 15:13 probably sums it up the best: “As the Father loved Me, I also have loved you; abide in My love. If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love, just as I have kept My Father’s commandments and abide in His love. These things I have spoken to you, that My joy may remain in you, and that your joy may be full. This is My commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends. You are My friends if you do whatever I command you. No longer do I call you servants, for a servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all things that I heard from My Father I have made known to you. You did not choose Me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain, that whatever you ask the Father in My name He may give you. These things I command you, that you love one another” (John 15:9-17 NKJV).
Be fruitful and multiply this greatest overcoming love!
