The Word of God is made up of letters – Hebrew Living Letters™ (HLL). The individual spiritual forces contained within His Hebrew Living Letters™ are inherent in Messiah Yeshua (Jesus Christ). They were birthed from His essential, intrinsic essence, which was originally included wholly in The Word. With this on the top of our minds, we are exploring each letter of the Hebrew Alef-Bet with our focus on the Messiah.
BET (ב) is the second letter of the Hebrew Living Letter Alef-Bet; and therefore, has the numerical value of 2. Its pictograph is a tent, a house, or a dwelling.
Scripture begins with the Book of Genesis. The Book of Genesis is named after its first word in Hebrew “bereshit” בְּרֵאשִׁית, which is commonly translated "in a beginning." This speaks of the whole of creation is a house – a BET – in relation to God.
The word bereshit is always written large at the beginning of a Torah scroll. The Hebrews say that this is to teach humanity that they should always seek the first ALEF (א) first – The Creator. One of the glorious fulfillments of BET is God’s Holy Temple – the Beis haMikdash – that housed the Ten Commandments. Recall that the Ten Commandments was/is God’s Marriage Contract – Ketubah – as a response to the people saying: All that the Lord has spoken we will do. “So Israel camped there before the mountain. And Moses went up to God, and the Lord called to him from the mountain, saying, ‘Thus you shall say to the house of Jacob, and tell the children of Israel: “You have seen what I did to the Egyptians, and how I bore you on eagles’ wings and brought you to Myself. Now therefore, if you will indeed obey My voice and keep My covenant, then you shall be a special treasure to Me above all people; for all the earth is Mine. And you shall be to Me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.” These are the words which you shall speak to the children of Israel.’ So Moses came and called for the elders of the people, and laid before them all these words which the Lord commanded him. Then all the people answered together and said, ‘All that the Lord has spoken we will do.’ So Moses brought back the words of the people to the Lord. And the Lord said to Moses, ‘Behold, I come to you in the thick cloud, that the people may hear when I speak with you, and believe you forever.’ So Moses told the words of the people to the Lord.” (Exodus 19:2-9 NKJV). This is a foreshadow of what will be accomplished in the next iteration of God’s Holy Temple where Messiah Yeshua and His Bride will be united via holy matrimony in the New Jerusalem.
In the midst of the word “bereshit” בְּרֵאשִׁית is the Hebrew word “rosh” רֹאשׁ, which means head or chief. The first two verses in the Book of John communicates that Yeshua was “in the beginning with God” and is God Himself. The Head of the house of creation is Messiah Yeshua: “For every house is built by some man; but He that built all things is God” (Hebrews 3:4 KJV). “In these last days has spoken to us in His Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the world. And He is the radiance of His glory and the exact representation of His nature, and upholds all things by the word of His power. When He had made purification of sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high” (Hebrews 1:2-3 NASB).
Since the Hebrew Living Letter ™ BET numerically represents the number 2, it represents duality, creation, or a dwelling place for God in the lower realm (earth). When BET (ב) is a prefix for a word, it carries the meaning of “in” and suggests that God has the intention of abiding within the realm of His creation: “For behold, the Kingdom of God is in your midst [within you]” (Luke 17:21 NASB). “I in them, and You in Me; that they may be made perfect in one, and that the world may know that You have sent Me, and loved them as You have loved Me” (John 17:23 NKJV).
Several names and titles of God begin with BET, but it is primarily used for the Son of God (ben Elohim). The Aramaic word for son is “bar” while the word for create is “bara.” If we separate the letters within the word “bara,” we have “bar” (son) and “a”- ALEF (father). This points us to the Only Begotten Son of our Heavenly Father (ALEF) and back to John Chapter 1: “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God… and the Word was made flesh and dwelt among us (and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father), full of grace and truth” (John 1:1,14 KJV).
It is significant that when we combine the Hebrew word for father (av) with the word for son (ben), we get the Hebrew word for stone “even.” Just like the molecules in a stone are so intertwined that they appear to be one, so is the Father and the Son. Yeshua’s oneness with His Father is pictured metaphorically as the Stone of Israel, which the builders rejected that has become the chief cornerstone (Matthew 21:42).
