What does it mean to be “in the midst” of God’s Kingdom?
IN THE MIDST of God’s Kingdom stands the Sacrificial Lamb of God in the midst of the Throne, which is in the midst of the four living creatures, and in the midst of the twenty-four elders. “And I looked, and behold, in the midst of the throne and of the four living creatures, and in the midst of the elders, stood a Lamb as though it had been slain, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God sent out into all the earth” (Revelation 5:6 NKJV).
IN THE MIDST of God’s Kingdom is the four living creatures of the Order of Melchizedek who are also called The Living Creature and/or The Cherubim. Notice that the spirit of the Living Creature in the wheels is what unifies the four living creatures in Ezekiel 1:19-20. “And I looked, and, behold, a whirlwind came out of the north, a great cloud, and a fire infolding itself, and a brightness was about it, and out of the midst thereof as the color of amber, out of the midst of the fire. Also, out of the midst thereof came the likeness of four living creatures. And this was their appearance; they had the likeness of a man. … And when the living creatures [plural] went, the wheels went by them: and when the living creatures [plural] were lifted up from the earth, the wheels were lifted up. Whithersoever the spirit was to go, they went, thither was their spirit to go; and the wheels were lifted up over against them: for the spirit of the living creature [singular] was in the wheels. When those went, these went; and when those stood, these stood; and when those were lifted up from the earth, the wheels were lifted up over against them: for the spirit of the living creature [singular] was in the wheels” (Ezekiel 1:4-5,19-21 KJV). Also notice that The Living Creature of Ezekiel 1 is also called The Cherubim in Ezekiel 10: “This is the Living Creature that I saw under the God of Israel by the river of Chebar; and I knew that they were the Cherubim” (Ezekiel 10:20 KJV).
IN THE MIDST of God’s Kingdom is a Throne where the living creatures worship the LORD God Almighty. The living creatures (i.e., The Living Creature or The Cherubim) have wings full of eyes both in Revelation 4 and Ezekiel 10, even though the number of wings differ for these living creatures. “And the four living creatures, each one of them having six wings, are full of eyes around and within; and day and night they do not cease to say, ‘Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God, the Almighty, who was and who is and who is to come.’ And when the living creatures give glory, honor, and thanks to Him who sits on the throne, to Him who lives forever and ever” (Revelation 4:8-9 NASB).
IN THE MIDST of God’s Kingdom is El Shaddai – the Almighty – whom the living creatures give glory, honor, and thanks. The attributes of El Shaddai are: Almighty; All Powerful; All Sufficient One; Judge; the sweet omnipotence of love, sure and all-sufficient resource in time of need; power to fulfill every promise He has made to His people and perform every word He has spoken; bountiful; overrides nature to perform miracles and remove mountains; Giver and Pourer out of self-sacrificial love and blessing; Nurturer and Comforter that gives strength and quiets the restless. El Shaddai is called the Double-Breasted One who nourishes and strengthens. Fullness – in Him all fullness dwell and out of His constant fullness His own receives all things.
Let us all give glory, honor, and thanks to the One who was, who is and is to come – the Almighty!
